When someone tells you that you are grinning like a Cheshire cat, it isn’t usually a compliment. The grinning Cheshire cat prompted Miss Alice to say “I have seen a cat without a grin, but never a grin without a cat” when it disappeared and left behind its grin.

Allegedly, one possible origin of the story of the grinning Cheshire cat comes from the Grosvenor family of Massachusetts.
